Hair loss can strike an especially crippling blow to women fighting cancer. In fact, a recent study revealed that 58% of women consider hair loss to be the most dreaded side effect they face when undergoing chemotherapy. To help women during one of the greatest fights of their lives, WLBT is partnering with St. Dominic's Hospital, the Mississippi Institute of Aesthetics, Nails and Cosmetology and the American Cancer Society to encourage people to grow, cut and donate their hair to create real-hair wigs for women who've lost their hair due to cancer.

This year, we are encouraging families to join together in growing 8"of hair in memory or honor of someone with cancer. All participants will be listed on WLBT.com and personally invited to come to the hair cutting celebration on Monday, March 4, 2013. Donated hair will be used to craft beautiful, high quality wigs for Mississippi women suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatments. Join me and my two daughters as we give the gift of hair!

What's Happening with WLBT's Great Lengths Campaign

Thanks for participating in Great Lengths sponsored by St. Dominic's Hospital! Your gift of hair is such a selfless act and we truly thank you for your commitment to help restore the personal esteem and confidence of persons facing and undergoing chemotherapy due to cancer. WLBT is partnering with St. Dominic’s Cancer Services, the Mississippi Institute of Aesthetics, Nails & Cosmetology and the American Cancer Society on a campaign that encourages people to grow, cut and donate 8” of their hair to create real-hair wigs for women who’ve lost their hair due to cancer treatment.

To sign up to donate 8” of your hair in memory or honor of someone with cancer, complete the electronic form on this page. All participants will be listed on WLBT.COM & personally invited to come to the hair cutting celebration on Monday, March 4, 2013, from 6am-6:30pm at the Mississippi Institute of Aesthetics, Nails & Cosmetology at 507 Springridge Road, Suite G in Clinton, Mississippi. Donated hair will be used to craft beautiful, high-quality wigs for women suffering from hair loss due to cancer treatment.

To donate hair, it must be:

- A minimum of 8 inches long. It takes up to 6 ponytails per wig.

- Freshly washed and dry.

- Free from styling products.

- Free of bleach, permanent colors and chemically treated.

- Less than 5% gray. Gray hair is harder to color and does not maintain color well.

- Please straighten to measure wavy or curly fine hair.

All persons 18 years of age and under must provide, prior to the event, a signed permission slip by a parent or legal guardian.

Day of hair cutting event, please present hair freshly washed and completely dried without styling free of chemicals, sprays and other hair products.

For hair cutting appointments prior to Monday, March 4, 2013, please call the MS Institute of Aesthetics, Nails and Cosmetology at 601-925-1344, Tuesday - Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. The salon is open to hair donors on Thursdays & Fridays leading up to the event. Hair will be lightly styled after the cut at no charge if you donate hair.
