JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – A Canadian filmmaker returned to her home state of Mississippi to examine race relations in an ETV documentary.

It was a packed house Monday night at The Auditorium in Jackson for the showing of Mississippi Remixed.

The documentary by filmmaker Myra Williams Ottewell is a six year journey into the transformation of race relations from the 1960's until today.

The film features never before seen archival footage.

Ottewell attended Provine High School in Jackson then graduated from Mississippi University for Women before moving to Canada.

She returned to interview Mississippians who played a role in integration and created the nearly hour long film.

The work includes Brenda Travis who was banned from graduating with a McComb's Burgland High School Class of 1962 for challenging segregation laws.

Also a focus is the 40th Anniversary of James Meredith's Walk on Fear.

"My hope in making this documentary is that it would be a discussion starter, a way to extend the conversation about race relations in Mississippi and America who knows," said filmmaker Myra Williams Ottewell.

Mississippi Remix airs Thursday night February 11 at eight o'clock on P.B.S.
