JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A new state senator sworn in Tuesday hopes to make a difference in his community.
Senator Albert Butler is from Port Gibson in southwest Mississippi.
He's worked in public service for more than 20 years.
Butler first started out as a teacher, then went on to become a Claiborne County supervisor.
He said he would like to work on infrastructure and highways, as well as bring his community together.
"One of the major things I looked at in southwest Mississippi was infrastructure development, and not only our highways, but also our water and sewer. I feel that unifying the community, working together, I feel that we have a great opportunity to make a difference in southwest Mississippi," said Butler.
Currently, Butler works as the academic manager for the Mississippi Job Corps Center in Port Gibson. He said he would also like to make job creation a focus of his senate seat.
