JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Firefighters are trying to determine what sparked an early morning blaze at Dick and Jane's, a downtown Jackson nightclub geared toward gay and lesbian customers.

WLBT was first on scene of the fire, which started just before 5 o'clock Monday morning.

Officials said they were able to get the blaze under control fairly quickly, but spent hours investigating the scene. They wrapped up their investigation of the building, located at 206 Capitol Street, just before noon Monday, but had yet to come to any final conclusions.

Division Chief R.D. Simpson of the Jackson Fire Department said no one was inside when the fire began, and no one was injured.

The club's owner showed WLBT's cameras the damage. It appeared one fire began in a trash can near the bar, and another in a trash can in an upstairs area. Two doors were damaged from what appeared to be a break-in.

The club's owner, who asked to remain anonymous, said he may be able to reopen the club by this weekend because the damage is not too extensive.

Meanwhile, Simpson said he doesn't believe this fire is connected to others in the downtown Jackson area in recent months.

The cause is still under investigation.
