JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The City of Jackson is considering an ordinance completely banning smoking in the capitol city, even in bars.
That's causing concern for bar owners and their patrons.
People on both sides of the issue spoke out at Tuesday's city council meeting.
"The total smoking ban, it takes away the choice, our right; we do have rights," said Victoria Burt.
"Making this ordinance 100 percent comprehensive will put Jackson on the right road to becoming a more heart healthy, friendly city," said Katherine Bryant, of the American Heart Association.
The smoking ordinance will be taken up in a rules committee meeting next Monday at 3 p.m.
It may be several weeks before a final vote on the issue.
