JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Re-drawing the lines of state legislative districts is one of many topics demanding the attention of lawmakers this session.  Redistricting was placed front-and-center at the Legislative Scrambler, put on by the Mississippi Economic Council Wednesday morning.

Headlining the breakfast was House Apportionment and Elections Chair Tommy Reynolds and Senate Elections Chair Terry Burton.  Burton elaborated on the lengthy process and how recent census numbers have impacted the discussion.

"Those finishing touches take a long time to do because pieces of the puzzle change daily, so we have to make all the numbers work," said Burton.

Reynolds provided examples of where voters can expect to see a shift.  He said significant growth in Desoto County will probably impact districts in northern Mississippi.

Burton is hopeful they will have a redistricting proposal on the floor of the House and Senate early March.
