Former Jackson cop sentenced to 75 years in jail

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -  A former Jackson police officer accused of rape has been sentenced to 75 years behind bars. The sentencing was a victory for the victims of former JPD cop Jeffrey Webb Sr.

Last week, a Hinds County jury charged Webb with statutory rape, sexual battery and gratification of lust. The Hinds County District Attorney says Webb sexually abused his former fiance's daughter from the time she was 11 until she was 14-years-old. Webb was acquitted of raping a 15-year-old girl back in 2002.

Jacquelyn Archie, the mother of one of Webb's victims says "I just thank God that justice has been served, thank you, thank you, thank you."

Hinds County District Attorney Robert Shuler Smith says, "We're very happy about the fact that we were able to present the evidence in front of a jury, successfully convict Mr. Webb of what he has done for the past several years and the sentence obviously sends a message to others who terrorize children."

Webb's attorney requested an appeal for bond. The district attorney doesn't anticipate the appeal will be granted.
