MS agency tops in southeast for winterizing homes

D'LO, MS (WLBT) -  A low income energy savings program that services eight Mississippi counties has won the top award in the southeastern region.

 More than 1,400 low incomes homes have been winterized over the past two years.

The South Central Community Action Agency of Mississippi hires private contractors, on a bid basis, to do the actual work of winterizing the homes.  

To qualify for this free service, you have to have an income below $21,000 a year for a single person and it goes up with each member of the household.  

The program has provided jobs for people like Sheletta Buckley, who is assistant executive director of the agency, which has won the top award for winterization of low income homes in a 14 state region.
