David Kenney began working at WLBT as a general assignment report in December of 1996.
Since then he has covered all types of stories around the state, from Presidential visits, the shootings at Pearl High School, to Hurricane Katrina, to the Federal trial of the late former Jackson Mayor Frank Melton.
David is from Minneapolis Minnesota. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin River Falls.
David was also awarded an internship at KARE-11 News in the Minneapolis television market, which is known throughout the country for their excellence in news reporting. His first job in television was a KIMT-TV in Mason City Iowa.
Since joining WLBT, David has been honored several times by the Mississippi Association of Broadcasters. In 2010 and 2012, he was awarded the Howard Lett Newsperson Of The Year from the Mississippi Associated Press.
One important aspect of David's commitment to giving back to the community is his work with Jackson Public Schools. Since 2002, David has been a member of the Craft Committee at the Career Development Center. Working with instructors at the school, David often does classroom visits, working with students in the Television Production department on video editing, reporting and anchoring.
David lives in Ridgeland and is married to Tabatha Kenney who is a High School Counselor in the Jackson Public Schools. They have been married since 1998. The Kenney's have one child, Zoe. Zoe is a member of the Ridgeland High School Band.
