The firings of two USM professors now have the attention of the state College Board and the ACLU of Mississippi.
On Tuesday, hundreds of students protested USM President Shelby Thames' decision to suspend and ultimately fire sociology professor Frank Glamser and English professor Gary Stringer. A majority of the school's faculty have given Thames a vote of no confidence. College board member Virginia Newton says the board has to address the USM situation and what can be done to resolve it. The ACLU will serve as co-counsel and look into possible violations of Glamser's and Stringer's constitutional rights to free speech and due process.
