Two Mississippi children have died from complications of the flu -- one from Madison County and another from Desoto County.
The flu is now widespread in Mississippi, and state health officer Ed Thompson is once again reminding people that it is peak season.
"That simply reminds us that it's important to protect children -- especially any young children -- with the flu vaccine," Dr. Thompson said. "It's not too late to do so now. The flu season is going to go on for two to three more months if it's a typical season."
Health Department officials specifically caution parents of children from six months to four years old, chronically ill people, and anyone over the age of 65.
To help avoid getting the flu altogether:
Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Walker has identified the woman found dead in the cemetery of East Mount Olive Baptist Church Wednesday night.
