A Jackson city councilman is speaking out against what he calls a dangerous railroad crossing.
It's located at the intersection of Fortification and Longino streets. Ward 3 councilman Kenneth Stokes says the railroad crossing has been a hazard for drivers for the last several months.
The pavement is starting to crumble alongside part of the tracks. Stokes claims it is the Department of Transportation's responsibility to fix the crossing to ensure the safety of the community.
"Something needs to be done. Something must be done. And it's MDOT's responsibility as part of the overseer project for the railroad to make sure these situations never occur."
Stokes says the railroad crossing issue will be on the agenda at the next city council meeting June 3rd.
Jefferson County Sheriff Peter Walker has identified the woman found dead in the cemetery of East Mount Olive Baptist Church Wednesday night.
