USPS explains political clothing ban

Posted: Updated:
JACKSON  (WLBT) - The United States Postal Service says no offense was intended in response to a Jackson postal worker sent home for showing support for President-Elect Barack Obama.

Yesterday, 50-year-old Roger Thompson was sent home by his supervisor for refusing to take off an Obama t-shirt.

Thompson says workers were told Friday not wear Obama t-shirts, hats or other accessories because the attire upset some workers.

In a statement to WLBT, joseph breckenridge, a spokesman for USPS said, "The U.S. Postal Service continues to investigate this matter. Though no offense was intended, we recognize that many have been offended by this incident and for that we offer our sincere regret. While we respect the entire range of political opinion, we also believe that the workplace is a place for work, not political controversy."
