RANKIN COUNTY (WLBT) - A Rankin County man was sentenced to two life sentences in the shooting death of his stepdaughter and her husband in a 2007 child-custody dispute.

Fifty-one-year-old William Tackett entered a guilty plea Monday.

District Attorney Michael Guest says Tackett confessed to killing 33-year-old Heather McGuffee and 35-year-old Travis McGuffee.

The shooting occurred June 7, 2007, as the McGuffees tried to pick up their 10-year-old son, who had been living at Tackett's home. A Hinds County Chancery Judge had given the McGuffee's custody of their child.

The boy was taken into state custody after the shootings.
