Nurses Making A Difference Everyday - MSNewsNow.com - Jackson, MS

Without a doubt nurses are in more demand now than ever before. They give around the clock care to our loved ones and sometimes their jobs go unrecognized. In an effort to salute local nurses within WLBT's 24 county viewing area, Hinds Community College School of Nursing and WLBT have partnered to present "Nurses Making A Difference Every Day." The campaign, generally scheduled around National Nurses Appreciation Week (May 6-May 12 of every year), serves to identify and recognize local nurses in the area.

There are two (2) phases of the project. During the first phase, all local hospitals, clinics and medical facilities are extended an invitation via WLBT News to email a digital group photo of their nurses to WLBT through Wednesday, April 20, 2011. Finally, April 25th through May 15th (phase 2), all photos received are featured in a commercial on WLBT and/or online on WLBT.COM.

Hinds Community College School of Nursing and WLBT are extremely proud of the work of all nurses and truly appreciate their commitment and dedication to the field of medicine and a healthier Mississippi!

The History of National Nurses Appreciation Week (nursingworld.org)

National Nurses Appreciation Week is named in honor of the Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. She was born in 1820 and died in 1910 and her influence shaped the role of nurses and the development of hospitals. Her work changed nursing along with public health and impacts health care even today! The celebration window counts down 7 days until the date of her birth, May 12th.
