MCcOMB, MS (WLBT) - A domestic violence case has ended in murder-suicide. It happened overnight in McComb at the National Inn, which is just off the Delaware Avenue exit from I-55.

Forty-two year old Michael Smith of Centreville, Mississippi kidnapped and killed his estranged wife, 39-year old Kathryn Smith of St. Francisville, Louisiana. He then killed himself.

Acting McComb Police Chief Gregory Martin told us 39 year old Kathryn Smith was kidnapped about ten last night after she left her job at the South of the Border restaurant in St. Francisville.

He said her estranged husband ran her off the road, after chasing her down Highway 61. He grabbed her and forced her to go to McComb with him.

He got off the interstate at the delaware avenue exit. They went to the National Motel and checked in.

Somehow Kathryn Smith managed to get away from him and ran to the lobby to ask for help.

Just as police arrived he chased her down a hallway and shot her in a women's rest room.

"He ran behind her, ran to the bathroom. He ran into the bathroom, and he shot several rounds in the bathroom. It's unknown how many rounds actually struck her. We do know one round struck him. He apparently shot her then turned the weapon on himself" says Chief Martin.

Andrew Young is an employee of the motel and was there just after the murder suicide.

"She ran in an got up under the sink. He shot her in the head and then he stepped back and shot himself" says Young.
