Robert Johnson

Robert L. Johnson has a proven record of results driven leadership to realize Jackson as a world-class city.  Johnson has served in local, state and federal positions of leadership and understands how to establish visionary strategic plans, and see these plans through to fruition.

Robert L. Johnson is currently President and CEO of RLJohnson & Associates, LLC, a Jackson, MS consulting firm specializing in security, litigation support and training.  Prior to starting his own business in 2003, Johnson served more than 32 years in law enforcement, corrections and national security. 

He was most recently with the US Department of Homeland Security, Transportation Security Administration as Federal Security Director of the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, implementing national transportation security procedures for the eleventh largest airport system in the United States. 

Since 1971, he has served in the criminal justice profession, 13 years as a Police Chief in the cities of Jackson, MS, Jackson, MI and Lansing MI and two years as the Commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Corrections.  His professional experience also includes ten years as a Trustee board member and Chairman of Jackson Community College in Jackson, Michigan and President of the Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police.  His private background includes serving as a Director of a midsize Michigan bank.

As a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, civic leader and friend, Robert invests his time, talents and treasures to community service and mentoring activities that lift up those around him.  He is an active member of the Downtown Jackson Rotary Club, and previously held memberships in 100 Black Men of Jackson and several other civic organizations. He has served on numerous boards including the Boy Scouts of America-Andrew Jackson Council and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Jackson. He has a long history of mentoring young men in each in every community where he has lived.

Robert Johnson and his wife Doris have enjoyed 36 years of marriage, raising four children, and are now enjoying time with their seven grandchildren.  The Johnson's have always been active in the communities where they have lived and are especially involved in activities and causes involving the betterment of our youth.  Robert was born and raised in Tennessee and calls Mississippi home.  Doris, an educator, teacher and former elementary school principal, grew up in Jackson's Washington Addition neighborhood.  She is a graduate of Jim Hill High School and Jackson State University.  Their youngest son, Kevin is a graduate of Tougaloo College.
