Residents hear from Ward 5 city council candidates

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Residents of Ward five heard from the five candidates who want to represent them on the Jackson City Council.

The venue was College Hill Baptist Church on Florence Avenue and each candidate made their case for for the seat now held by Charles Tillman.

Charles alexander ward 5 candidate:

"It's time for somebody to put the citizens of ward five first; go in, have them involved in the decision making," said candidate Charles Alexander.

 Candidate Milton Chambliss said, "I'm a professional economic developer. I'm a professional business developer. I'm a professional job creator. I'm a youth mentor. I'm a crime preventer and i have a long record in civil rights."

 Betty Dagner Cook told the crowd, "I have the passion, the devotion, the dedication and the ethical understanding to move Jackson and ward five into that new era of culture and economic development."

Incumbent Charles Tillman said, "Three and a half years ago, you got it right. You must keep it right. So, on may the fifth, go back to the polls and re-elect Charles H. Tillman and you sho nuff will keep it right."

 Maggie Benson White told Ward 5 residents, "I would like to be council of ward five so that I can work with the citizens to bring their dreams to reality."

The Mississippi Link and Jackson Advocate newspapers along with WRBJ radio planned the series of city council community forums.
