Canton Mayoral Candidates

Four candidates are running for Mayor of Canton. They met Tuesday night for a debate at Canton High School. Dr. William Truly, Tom Alexander, Jerry Lousteau and incumbent mayor, Fred Esco answered questions submitted by the audience. Each candidate says education, economic development, public safety and creating a united effort with the Board of Alderman are priorities.

Truly said.  "We need a change here in Canton, Mississippi. We need a change for ourselves, we need a change for the adults and we certainly need a change for our children."

"I can assure you this.. If you look at Canton, Mississippi, as small as we are, we've got some of the most brilliant doctors, lawyers, you name it from Canton, Mississippi", said Alexander.

Lousteau says,  "I will first perform a top to bottom review of every city department, from the chief, the leader, to the head of that department, on down to the lowest paid, part time employee. We'll meet with the department heads and help them manage their departments, look for waste, get a job description for everyone, so people know what to do. That is leadership."

"These are tough economic times and in tough times, experience counts. And I'm asking you today to let me continue to put my experience to work for you", said Esco.

Esco has served as mayor for the last six years. The debate was sponsored by Canton High School and the Alpha Phi Alpha, fraternity.
