Lake Caroline golf course to reopen

MADISON COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - After years of court battles and public hearings, the Lake Caroline golf course is set to reopen.

The Madison County board of supervisors voted Monday morning to rezone the land and revive the golf course, reversing their December decision to allow residential development there.

Crews have already started clearing brush at the golf course, which has been overgrown and idle for several years.

Now that the board has voted, Randy Watkins -- a local businessman, golfer, and host of "Tee to Green" on WLBT -- plans to solidify plans to buy the land from the bank that owns it.

"The really number-one reason is the people at Lake Caroline, the property owners out there, they stood tall, they fought hard, and they were very encouraging, very dedicated to make this process work," Watkin said. "We couldn't have done it without them."

Watkins says he hopes to re-open the course in September. He owns two other golf courses in the metro area.
