Lawmakers attempt to finalize the budget

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Lawmakers gathered around the table again Monday in an attempt to finalize a state spending plan.

Negotiators huddled inside the Lt. Governors office. But a serious stalemate continues over medicaid. They have agreed on education spending, but little else.

Governor Haley Barbour forewarned some medicaid services will have to be cut if lawmakers pass anything less than his proposed $90 million hospital tax. Hospitals are fighting the assessment.

Barbour has threatened to veto any budget bills that included planned deficits. The deadline for hammering out a budget agreement is June 30th.
