Authorities search woods for suspect in high speed chase

BOLTON, MS (WLBT) - A number of law enforcement officers are combing the woods near Bolton, south of I-20 where a high speed chase ended shortly before 6 p.m. Monday evening.

Warren County Sheriff Martin Pace tells WLBT News that it started at a convenience store at Highway 61 and I-20 in Vicksburg where a man went into the store and then noticed a man getting into his black Honda sedan. A Warren County deputy was only a minute away and gave chase reaching speeds over 100 miles an hour.

At one point, the chase was called off when the driver of the stolen car crossed into the westbound lane, going the wrong way on the interstate.

The car thief took the Edwards exit and then got back on I-20 and tried to take the Bolton Exit when he flipped the car over and ran into the woods. Units from MHP, Hinds S.O., Bureau of Narcotics and Fish and Wildlife are assisting in the search.

Pace says they are now awaiting the arrival of the Hinds canine unit to help with the search.
