Hard work starts for Miss Mississippi

VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) - Miss Mississippi 2009, Anna Tadlock,  held her first news conference Sunday afternoon.

Tadlock is a Mississippi State graduate.

She was a standout in the competition this year, as the only contestant to win both the swimwear and talent preliminaries.

Tadlock sang "A New Life" from the musical Jekyll and Hyde.

Her platform also involves music; using it as a positve influence in children's education.

Persistence paid off for the 23-year-old.  She competed in eleven local preliminaries before qualifying for the miss mississippi pageant.

After the fourth try at Miss Mississippi, she finally claimed the crown.

"Right now I'm just trying to enjoy the moment, that seems to be my next step right now. It's still starting to sink in that this is my job now for the next year so preparing for miss america, really just being able to enjoy that experience and also to put forth a lot of community service for my state" says Tadlock.

Tadlock will compete in the Miss America Pageant is set for January 30 in Las Vegas.
