New program targets stress in the military

Stephanie Bell Flynt | email

After a record 140 soldiers committed suicide last year, a new Army program will take a closer look at how troops handle stress. All active-duty and reserve soldiers will be asked to take an online survey to assess their resiliency. They will also be asked how they are feeling emotionally, spiritually and socially.

Army officials say it's necessary to teach soldiers adequate coping skills. The comprehensive soldier fitness program will be launched in October.
