JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - In an effort to help Jackson families go green a city councilman is helping giveaway energy efficient light bulbs.

Ward 2 Councilman Chokwe Lumumba led the giveaway at four churches across the capital city. Some 4,000 energy efficient light bulbs were distributed to low income families, senior citizens and those having trouble controlling their energy usage. Each household was given up to six bulbs. The light bulbs are designed to last about ten years.

"We're helping people out there as much as we can. These light bulbs will save people tons of watts with in their home which will ensure that their light bills are lower," said Stacey Chisolm, assistant secretary Peoples' Assembly.

The energy efficient bulbs were donated to the People's Assembly Task force by the Consul General of Venezuela. The task force was created during Lumumba's campaign for city council to give the residents of Ward 2 a voice in local government.
