Judge delays hearing in solicitation case

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A judge has delayed a hearing in the solicitation case against Coahoma County Supervisor Dr. Roger Weiner, who's accused of soliciting prostitutes across state lines.

A hearing on pending motions was set for Thursday, but court records indicate a witness is sick.

U.S. District Judge Neal Biggers Jr. rescheduled the hearing for Nov. 5. The pending motions include two defense requests to throw out the case and a government request to disqualify most of Weiner's defense team.

Weiner, a prominent Clarksdale cardiologist, pleaded not guilty to a charge of soliciting prostitutes after being arrested in an undercover FBI sting operation in May. His attorneys say he will be acquitted.

Trial is set for January 25.
