FLOWOOD, MS (WLBT) - As the holiday season gets underway, airports get ready for their busiest time of year.

Air travel can be very stressful, and officials at the Jackson-Evers International Airport want to help. They released travel tips Tuesday morning, to get you through security checkpoints quicker.

"We expect them to be prepared, so they can have a safe and secure travel and get through the screening checkpoint relatively easy," said TSA Federal Security Director David Wynn.

In your carry on bag, all liquids, gels and aerosols must be in a 3 ounce bottle or less, and placed in a quart sized zip-top bag. And you must take them out of your luggage when you go through security.

Also be prepared to remove your jacket and shoes. And have your ID and boarding pass ready.

You are allowed to bring food, like cakes and pies, through security. But if you are carrying gifts, they must be unwrapped.

Plan to give yourself a little extra time. "It's going to be on the passengers to arrive early, pack smart, and give yourself more time for parking," said Denson Stasher,  Director of Security and Operations.

Nearly 21 thousand passengers are expected to come through Jackson's airport this week. That's down, just slightly, from Thanksgiving week last year.
