JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi State running back Anthony Dixon has won the Conerly Trophy, given to the state's top college football player.
Dixon beat out nine other nominees from the state's 10 colleges with football teams Tuesday during a ceremony at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.
The 6-foot-1, 235-pound outgoing senior capped off a record-breaking career by surpassing the Bulldogs' single-season rushing mark in a 41-27 win over Mississippi in the Egg Bowl. He owns every significant Mississippi State rushing record and is also the team's career scoring leader.
Dixon beat out an accomplished field that included 2008 Conerly Trophy winner Damion Fletcher of Southern Miss and Ole Miss' Dexter McCluster.
