JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The largest Angel Tree toy distribution for the Salvation Army of metro Jackson kicks off Saturday morning.

Friday dozens of volunteers were hard at work gathering and organizing toys for more than 81-hundred angel tree children. It's a record number in the metro area of parents needing help providing their children a Merry Christmas this afternoon a few toys were stolen from the temporary distribution center in Metrocenter Mall.

Salvation Army officials say they were quickly replaced by generous donors.

"We have enough toys. We had a big drop, a shipment from toys for tots today and it helped us a great deal. We even have a few that will be able to help other agencies with the first of the week next week before Christmas," said Capt. Ken Chapman of the Salvation Army of Metro Jackson.

Angel Tree families have an assigned time slot to pick up their gifts.

Distribution day begins at 8:30 a.m. and is expected to last well into the evening.
