Shriners provide Christmas dinner for families

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Moms and Dads, Grandmas and Grandpas are getting help with Christmas dinner from the Shriners in Jackson.

Saturday morning, members of the Shriners Rissah Temple #130 gathered at the Stringer Grand Lodge on Lynch Street to hand out sacks full of turkey, vegetables, fruit, and everything else needed for a full dinner.

Throughout the year, nobles with the group had identified about 40 families in need. Some came to the lodge to pick up their sacks.  Others, who live as far away as Bolton and Crystal Springs, had their meals delivered to them.

"This is the season to be giving. We're blessed to be able to give rather than being on the receiving end. So that's what the whole season is about," says Tim Crisler, Illustrious Potentate with the Shriners.

The Rissah Temple Order has held the Christmas dinner giveaway for the past 21 years.
