JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -  Some Jackson families will have a special Christmas thanks to the a Grammy award-winning rap artist David Banner.

At the Jackson Medical Mall Wednesday, Banner delivered presents to 10 teens from a therapeutic group home in Jackson.

The teens, from the Center for Family Life Extension, received clothing items like socks, T-shirts, and Nike shoes.

Banner also delivered gifts to the homes of 15 Jackson area families in need. Each family received a $50 gift card for groceries, and each child received educational items, clothing, and toys.

It's all through Banner's "Heal the Hood" program, which the Jackson native started four years ago.

"I just want to be some type of bright light and maybe they'll do the same. That's the only thing I ask anybody. People ask me, 'David Banner, what can we do for you, doing the stuff that you do?' Don't worry about me. God has taken care of me. I just hope they'll do that for the next generation when I'm dead and gone," said Banner.

This year, the recipients were nominated by agencies like the Boys and Girls Club, the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and WJMI radio station.
