DENVER, CO (NBC) - The parents that staged the so called "Balloon Boy" hoax will face jail time.
Richard and Mayumi Heene were sentenced Wednesday for making up a story about their son floating away in a homemade balloon last October.

Instead of landing a TV reality show like they'd planned, the Heene's new reality is jail time, probation and a hefty fine.

Richard will serve 30 days straight time and 60 days of work release.

Mayumi will serve her 20 days on a flexible schedule after her husband returns home.

Both were given four years probation and banned from profiting from the hoax that started with this home video.

The judge ruled the Heene's will also have to pay restitution, which could exceed $50,000.
