JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Hundreds of people headed to area malls today to get those final items on their Christmas lists.

Most malls closed their doors at 6 p.m., and there was a mad rush right up to the last minute.

Despite the rain, there was bumper to bumper traffic on County Line Road, and long lines at the cash registers at North park Mall.

Mall Marketing Manager Allison Lunsford says, "We are extremely busy we opened at 8 a.m. some of the department stores opened even earlier and we've not slowed down today."

Many last minute shoppers we talked to were hoping retailers marked down overstocked items, trying to get them out before the holiday, and for most, that paid off.

"Some of the shirts were marked down to $5.99 when they were regular $30 so it pays to wait till the day before," said Debra Jones as she left Metrocenter Mall, on her way to Walmart to finish off her Christmas list.

Walmart stores stayed open till 8 p.m. in most locations.

For those last, last-minute shoppers, Christmas day CVS pharmacy and Walgreens will be open during daytime hours.

Most malls are gearing up for big crowds on Saturday, when many people will be returning gifts and making exchanges.
