Three injured in convenience store shooting

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) –  Shots rang out in the wee hours Sunday at a south Jackson convenience store injuring three men and leading police on a quest to identify one of the victims.

Jackson police responded to the scene around 1:45 a.m. at the Laxmi Food Mart at 1220 Terry Road.

Shell casings littered the ground near the store's gas pumps.

Witnesses told police three people were shot and taken in private vehicles to local hospitals.

One of the three victims, 24 year old Robert Young of Jackson, has been identified as a shooter.

He is charged with aggravated assault.

Young also suffered a gunshot wound to the lower back.

Eighteen year old Michael Blockman of Jackson was also shot.

He was treated for his wounds and released.

Police are trying to determine a motive in this multiple shooting.

One of the injured was shot several times.

Police do not know his name or condition.

"The third subject that's suffered multiple gunshot wounds we do have information that he actually was inside a vehicle, but we still don't know his involvement in the incident," said J.P.D. spokesman Officer Roderick Holmes.

Investigators said additional arrests are possible.

They have very few leads and need your help solving this case.

Police said victims in the case are giving conflicting information and the most severely injured man has been unable to talk to them about the shooting.
