Ridgeland police have arrested a 25 year old Jackson woman and charged her with accessory after the fact of murder, in connection with the brutal slaying of 27 year old Avis Banks at her Ridgeland home last week. Banks was five months pregnant at the time of her death. More >>
JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The two days following Christmas were filled with gun-violence in the capital city. Two shootings took place Saturday and Sunday.
One occurred in a nightclub, the other in the parking lot of a convenience store.
Jackson police were called to Club Paradise in the 1800 block of Mill Street at 1:45 a.m., Saturday morning.
Public Information Officer Joseph Wade told WLBT, "We had some individuals who apparently got into an altercation inside the club, then decided to retaliate by coming back and firing rounds into the club."
Two people were shot. They were identified as 31-year-old Gino Banks and 21-year-old Danthony Kirk, both of Jackson. Both were transported to University Medical Center with gunshot wounds to their feet.
A third victim, 26-year-old Ahmad Williams of Jackson was also injured. He suffered lacerations to his lower back. Investigators have yet to make an arrest in this case.
"People just don't want to come forward; they don't want to say what they heard or what they saw. It's kind of funny, a packed club and no one saw anything," said Daughtry.
Early Sunday morning, police were called to the Laxmi food mart in the 1200 block of Terry Road. The ground near the gas pumps were littered with shell casings from the nighttime shootout.
Again three people hospitalized, after what police believe was a heated altercation between two groups of people. One weapon was recovered at the scene.
Police arrested 24-year-old Robert Young of Jackson, and charged him with aggravated assault. He was also one of the victims, shot in the lower back. Eighteen-year-old Michael Blockman of Jackson who was also shot was treated and released.
A third victim Ronnie Tillman was shot multiple times. His age and condition are unknown.
