Jackson Police Come to the Rescue of Canine

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - It was a dangerous case for Jackson Police officers but it has a happy ending Tuesday night.

WLBT viewers called and emailed Three On Your Side about a dog stranded in the middle of a busy highway.

We checked it out and found this pooch in the median of Interstate 55 at Lakeland Drive. It appeared to be injured so we called Jackson Police and they quickly dispatched a crew from animal control as well as several officers.

They risked their safety on this dangerous stretch of highway, but the brave officers with big hearts finally rounded up the frightened canine.

It's right hind leg appeared to be hurt.

"Right now, he's on the way to be treated; we're going to try to get him to a veterinarian to evaluate the extent of his injuries and get some treatment for him," said Deputy Chief Gerald Jones.

Based on the emails we received, the unfortunate animal had been there for at least a day.

We'll give you an update on the dog's condition as soon as we can.

Deputy Chief Gerald Jones says the rescue was all in a days work.
