JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson police are searching for the man who mugged a woman in her north Jackson neighborhood.

The attack happened Monday morning in the Northpointe Subdivision off Old Canton Road.

Police say the woman was walking on Waterford Drive when she was approached by a young black male. He told her to hand over her valuables.

When the woman told him she didn't have anything, the man began attacking her. Police say he struck the woman twice in the face.

She began screaming, and managed to break away from him. He then ran away.

"We believe it's an isolated incident, the city of Jackson and that neighborhood are a safe community, I've seen some of the citizens that live in that community get on the news and they said they still feel safe in the neighborhood and the police department is going to do our part, we want the citizens to continue to do their part," says Jackson Police spokesman Officer Joseph Daughtry.

The man who attacked the woman is described as a black male in his late teens.  He was about 5 feet nine inches tall, and about 160 pounds.
