Dozens flock to Catfish Drop

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Dozens of folks were ready to ring in the new year at Hal and Mal's in Jackson.

For the twelfth year the popular downtown eatery has hosted their Krystal Ball, made famous for the mini Krystal burgers passed out to patrons at the end of the night.

But this year there was a new twist. At the stroke of midnight a large illuminated catfish dropped from 30 feet in the air.

"We were thinking of something to do, kind of concentrate the revival we are having and start a new tradition here celebrating Jackson so we came up with the catfish drop," said Catfish Drop co-creator Matt Eichelburger.

This year's theme was "Downtown Jackson: Past, Present, and Future."
