GREENWOOD, Miss. (AP) - MedState EMS Inc. will begin helicopter ambulance service in the new year to serve 10 counties in north-central Mississippi.
The helicopter will be based at the Winona-Montgomery County Airport. It will operate in a radius of about 70 miles.
MedStat CEO Barry Eskridge says the target date for the start of service is April 1 although it might take a little longer.
Eskridge tells the Greenwood Commonwealth that Metro Aviation of Shreveport, La., will supply the helicopter and the pilot. He says Metro Aviation operates 71 aircraft in 16 states.
Eskridge says the company will tie the helicopter service in with the existing 911 system so ground ambulances and the helicopter will be dispatched.
