TYLERTOWN, MS (WLBT) –A Walthall County teenager was killed after being trapped by a fire that destroyed her home.
According to Sgt. BillyWayne Thornhill, 17 year-old Ieasha Byrd died around 7:30 Friday morning inside a mobile home on Oak Grove Road west of Tylertown.
Oak Grove Volunteer firefighters arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames.
The teenager's mother 41-year old Jeanette Byrd and three other siblings escaped.
Investigators said Ieasha's 14-year-old sister Jamalica was in the rear bedroom with her and jumped from the window to safety.
She suffered minor injuries.
Also inside were 20-year-old Kamasha Byrd and nine year old Javon Byrd who also sustained minor injuries.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is assisting with the investigation.
The American Red Cross was contacted to provide aid.
The family lost everything in the mobile home fire.
