STARKVILLE, MS (WLBT) – The investigation continues into the Starkville fire that killed nine people Monday.
Starkville Fire Chief Rodger Mann said investigators have not determined the actual cause of the fire but believe the possible point of origin was in the living room of the apartment.
Inspection records indicate the unit had a smoke detector, but so far it has not been located.
Six children and three women were killed in that tragic blaze.
The upstairs apartment had only a single front door entry.
Chief Mann urges you to have more than one exit from your home and to practice escape drills.
He also recommends that you have properly working smoke detectors located throughout your home.
Please call the Walthall County Sheriff's Department at 601-876-3481 if you would like to help.
