JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson announced the city's plan for dealing with the anticipated freezing weather conditions from city hall Wednesday morning.
City departments are on alert, ready to deal with sleet and freezing rain.
Public works crews are on standby to spread sand and de-icers on city streets and bridges.
They will be out in force to make sure the roads are clear for emergency vehicles and maintain access to major streets and thoroughfares.
"I urge the citizens of Jackson to stay off the roads...stay off the roads as much as possible when the wintry precipitation begins. We tend to have a large number of auto accidents during sleet and snow incidences and our police and fire departments will need to respond appropriately," said Mayor Johnson.
