MERIDIAN, MS (WLBT) - A Lauderdale County family received some really good news today, after two days of bad news out of the earthquake-stricken island of Haiti.
Meridianite William Hatcher was on a mission trip near Port-Au-Prince, the epicenter of the earthquake, when it struck.
After almost two agonizing days, Family members finally got word on hatchery today, and got to hear his voice.
Greg Hatcher was elated when telling about the conversation he had with his father. William Hatcher told him the devastation there is just awful.
He is currently in the Dominican Republic. He says his group is exhausted and will spend the night at a hotel.
He has been aided by the U-S State Department and says government officials have taken good care of him; even providing phones for Americans to call home.
This ends two days of worry for this Mississippi family.
William Hatcher wasn't able to give his son any indication of when he would be back home.
