JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The city of Jackson never forgets the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

Saturday hundreds came out for the MLK parade. School marching bands from the capital city, New Orleans and other spots energized the crowds and debutantes enjoyed their day in the limelight.

The parade begins at Freedom Corner and Winds its way through the streets. This year several grand marshals were honored including Mrs. Alyne Payton, mother of the late NFL great Walter Payton and Jackson Police Officer Dewayne Collier.

"They're sharing everything about history, what Martin Luther King stood for, for everyone to be equal. At this time, we can come together," said Randy Hayes of Jackson.

Each year Jackson's Martin Luther King Jr. parade is organized by Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes.
