Jackson firefighters battle a two alarm blaze in downtown

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Several units responded around 10 last night to Capitol and Lemon Streets, across from Poindexter Park. Fire and smoke could be seen soaring above the single story building.

Chief R. D. Simpson, spokesman for the Jackson Fire Department tells us the cause is still under investigation.

Simpson says nobody was hurt in the blaze and the units responding did a good job in putting it out, because it was fully involved in flames when they arrived.

The building was unoccupied. A lawyer who has an office nearby, Harry Rosenthal, says the building is owned by Alvester Williamson, Jr. of Jackson.

Rosenthal says he tried to buy it once and was told to talk to Bank Plus.
