JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A man accused of impersonating a federal agent as part of an alleged scam that promised prisoners an early release for a fee will go to trial in March.
Monterro Paul was charged in U.S. District Court in Jackson last month.
Prosecutors say he claimed to work for the DEA and told an undercover FBI agent he could get prisoners released early through a scheme that involved setting up drug dealers for arrest.
An alleged accomplice also was charged at the time.
Paul pleaded not guilty last week. A judge in the case set the trial date for March 1.
