RANKIN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Investigators believe two roommates had been arguing over how to discipline a bulldog before their violent confrontation turned deadly over the weekend in Rankin County.
Rankin County Sheriff Ronnie Pennington says 21-year-old Travis Payne has been charged with the murder of 44-year-old Rodney McNeer.
Investigators say McNeer died from blunt trauma to the head. The sheriff's department says they believe both men were drinking just before the murder occurred.
Sheriff Pennington says Payne repeatedly struck McNeer over the top of the head with a tabletop.
It happened in a trailer on Cane Creek Place off Highway 43 where both men were living. Payne's bulldog had just bitten both men.
Investigators believe that is what started the argument.
Travis Payne is being held without bond.
