Two killed in plane crash identified

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS  (WLBT) -The two men killed in a homemade aircraft that went down Friday in Hancock County have been identified.

According to the coroner they are 56-year-old Randy Botts of Perkinston, who owned the plane and 32-year-old Carl Ray Smith of Picayune.

Investigators say the men died when the homemade airplane crashed shortly after take off from a private airstrip. Coroner Norma Stiglet says the plane flipped in the air then plunged into an area of thick pine trees.

The crash happened around 2:45 p.m. north of White Cypress Lake in the Leetown Community.
