PEARL, MS (WLBT) – Louisiana authorities arrested a man Saturday accused of fatally shooting a Madison county man and injuring a Rankin county woman.
Pearl police Chief Ben Schuler identified the suspected gunman as 46 year-old Mack Watts Jr. of Flowood.
Watts was allegedly fleeing Mississippi when he was stopped by troopers.
He was wanted for the murder of 38 year-old Robert Lee Lindsey of Canton.
Pearl police discovered Lindsey shot three times in the chest.
Also injured was 33 year-old Candice Garrett of Pearl.
Pearl investigators said the shooting happened at the Crosswinds Apartments in Pearl.
Garrett called 911 while on her way to the hospital, informing authorities that she had been shot.
She told officers that Watts had also opened fire on Lindsey and was still on the scene.
Saturday evening, Chief Schuler told WLBT that Watts was stopped by Louisiana State Troopers near Bossier City, Louisiana.
He has been taken into custody.
Authorities are working to have Watts returned to Mississippi for prosecution.
The motive for the double shooting has not been released.
