JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - There's a cheerleading squad based in Flowood with more high energy and spirit than most.  The Treasures at the Mississippi Cheer Academy.  It is the only squad in the state for children with special needs and with two first place trophies from the Delta Blues Championship and Dixie Championship under their belts, these seven girls are just getting started.

"My mother worked with special needs children while I was growing up so I always knew I wanted to work with them," said coach Katie Hardy at the Mississippi Cheer Academy.  She started the Treasures squad in summer 2009.

"I got the great opportunity to join this gym and coach here.  So I brought the idea to the head coaches.  They had been thinking about it and they said just kind of run with it and get it started.," said Hardy.

"It's very fun as you can see. We do a lot of stuff.  It's very fun," said ten year old Skylar Robinson.

"We have a lot of fun.  We've done two competitions.  We've done really well at both and got first place," said Hardy.

"It is a dream come true," said Kevin Crowe whose seven year old daughter Morgan is on the Treasures squad.  "When she was diagnosed with Down Syndrome you think none of this is possible.  But people like the cheer academy come along and coach Katie and her staff and give you this opportunity to be a part of something.  It's truly amazing."

"I would just love to keep it going for several years.  I would love for it to grow next year and have even more children involved," said Hardy.
